Administration’s protective measures are making progress.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released details earlier this month on measures President Trump’s Administration is taking to guard the privacy of Americans. The Clean Network program has been established to comprehensively guard citizens’ privacy and organizations’ sensitive information “from aggressive intrusions by malign actors, such as the Chinese Communist Party.” The programs are designed to protect the critical telecommunications and technology infrastructure of the United States.
The new efforts for the Clean Network are:
- Clean Carrier, to prevent untrusted carriers from U.S. telecommunications networks.
- Clean Store, to remove untrusted apps from U.S. mobile app stores .
- Clean Apps, to prevent untrusted manufacturers from pre-installing apps or making them available in the U.S.
- Clean Cloud, to prevent citizens’ private or companies’ sensitive information from being stored or processed on cloud-based systems that are accessible to foreign adversaries.
- Clean Cable, to ensure undersea cables that connect the U.S. to the global internet are not used for intelligence gathering.
Secretary Pompeo said, “Momentum for the Clean Network program is growing. More than thirty countries and territories are now Clean Countries, and many of the world’s biggest telecommunications companies are Clean Telcos. All have committed to exclusively using trusted vendors in their Clean Networks.”
